Physical Damage Coverage for Hot Shot Truckers
Physical damage coverage protects your truck and trailer from collision, comprehensive perils, and everything in between. We insure 1-ton pickups, dually setups, and flatbed trailers at stated value or ACV — including your custom equipment.

What it covers
- Collision damage — accidents with other vehicles, objects, or rollover
- Comprehensive — theft, fire, hail, flood, vandalism, and falling objects
- Custom equipment on your truck — toolboxes, fifth-wheel hitches, gooseneck balls
- Trailer physical damage for goosenecks, flatbeds, and step-decks you own
- Towing and roadside assistance after a covered loss
- Rental reimbursement while your truck is being repaired
Who it's for
- Owner-operators who depend on their truck as their primary income source
- Hot shot carriers with newer 1-ton trucks carrying significant loan balances
- Truckers who’ve added custom equipment not covered by standard policies
- Operators with trailers worth more than $5,000 that need separate coverage
Why CCA
- We insure at stated value — you choose the amount, not the depreciation schedule
- We include custom equipment in your valuation upfront, not as an afterthought
- Our carrier partners specialize in working trucks — they understand commercial use
- We walk you through ACV vs. stated value so you make the right choice for your rig
Common questions about physical damage coverage
For newer trucks with significant value, stated value locks in a higher payout than ACV (which deducts depreciation). For older high-mileage trucks where market value is clear, ACV may be fine. We compare both options when we quote you.
Not automatically. Trailers you own need to be specifically listed on the policy. We’ll inventory your trailer(s) and add them with their own stated values.
The payout goes to your lender first. If your truck’s insured value is less than your loan balance, you’ll owe the difference — that’s the gap that GAP insurance covers. We can discuss whether you need it.
Yes. Contractors Choice Agency is licensed in all 50 states and actively writes hot shot trucking programs nationwide. Your agent can write your policy regardless of where you’re based or which states you operate in.
Contact your carrier’s claims department directly using the number on your policy documents, or call us at 844-967-5247 and we’ll assist with the process. We aim to acknowledge all claim contacts within 2 hours during business hours.
Many of our carrier partners offer monthly payment plans, sometimes with a small finance charge. We’ll present payment options when you review your quote so you can choose what works for your cash flow.

Yes. Once your policy is bound, we issue your certificate of insurance immediately. Most carriers also provide digital policy documents same-day.
We work with carriers who specialize in non-standard and high-risk trucking accounts. A poor MVR or prior loss history will affect your premium, but we have markets for most situations. Be upfront about your record when requesting a quote.
Yes. Trucks under 26,001 lbs GVWR don’t require a CDL in most states, and many hot shot operators run legally without one. We write programs for both CDL and non-CDL carriers.
Property damage liability (part of your auto liability) covers damage you cause to someone else’s property with your truck. Cargo coverage protects the freight you’re hauling — a different exposure entirely. Both are essential for a complete hot shot program.
If you’re hauling for compensation across state lines, you need an MC number. Intrastate carriers may only need a USDOT number depending on the state. We can help you determine the right authority type for your operation.
Yes. We can pair your trucking program with business owner’s policy (BOP), umbrella, or occupational accident coverage. Bundling can simplify renewals and sometimes reduce overall premium.
